LoRaWAN Technology Introduction

LoRaWAN Network Architecture

The terminal devices in the LoRaWAN network do not make each terminal device almost always open, but directly interact with the gateway, and only "open" when it needs to communicate with the gateway, because the content is not a problem. LoRa radio has some characteristics that enable it to obtain sufficient remote power and low cost. Some of these features include:

Modulation Technique

LoRa radio uses spectrum modulation technology to significantly increase the communication range, while maintaining the low power characteristics comparable to FSK modulated physical layer radio. Although it has been widely used in military and space communications for a long time, LoRa is the first low-cost commercial implementation of this method.

Frequency

Although LoRa technology is not related to frequency, LoRa radios communicate through unlicensed sub GHz radio bands, which are widely used worldwide. These frequencies vary from region to region and, in many cases, from country to country.

Adaptive Data Rate

LoRa uses a combination of variable bandwidth and spread spectrum factor (SF7-SF12) to change the data rate, which is a tradeoff with the transmission range. A higher spread factor provides greater coverage at a lower data rate, and vice versa. The combination of bandwidth and spread spectrum factor is set according to the network conditions and the amount of data sent.

Adaptive Power Level

LoRa radios have adaptable power levels. Factors such as data rate and network quality will affect LoRa radio. When fast transmission is required, the transmission power will increase, and vice versa. As a result, battery life is extended and network capacity is retained. Various factors, including device level, affect power consumption.

LoRa Alliance's Support for LoRaWAN

In the future, our global, national and regional networks must support billions or even trillions of intelligent Internet of Things devices around the world. LoRaWAN based IoT solutions and LoRaWAN technologies will play a very important role in providing innovative, low-cost and efficient networks for future applications. There is a Lora Alliance Association that unites more than 400 companies around the world to contribute, improve and implement intelligent LoRaWAN networks for future needs.

LoRa Alliance is an open, non-profit member association, which believes that the era of Internet of Things has arrived. The LoRa Alliance is initiated by industry leaders. Its mission is to standardize the low power consumption wide area networks (LPWANs) deployed around the world to achieve the Internet of Things (IoT), machine to machine (M2M), smart cities and industrial applications.
