If you’ve been researching long-range Sub-1GHz wireless solutions, you’ve likely come across two popular terms: CC1310 and LoRa®. Some search results may even combine them into “CC1310 LoRa,” leading to confusion about what each technology offers and which is right for your project.
At Coral RF, we design and manufacture high-performance modules based on both technologies. In this article, we’ll clarify the differences and introduce our CC1310-based modules that deliver exceptional range without relying on LoRa modulation.
The CC1310 is a highly integrated Sub-1GHz wireless MCU from Texas Instruments. It features:
ARM® Cortex®-M3 core
Flexible RF transceiver supporting GFSK, MSK, OOK, and 4-(G)FSK
Ultra-low power consumption (ideal for battery-powered devices)
Excellent sensitivity down to -124 dBm
Important: The CC1310 does not support LoRa modulation. It uses traditional narrowband modulation schemes optimized for low-power, long-range communication.
LoRa is a proprietary chirp spread spectrum modulation technology from Semtech. It offers:
High interference immunity
Very high sensitivity (down to -148 dBm)
Long range at low data rates
Widely used in LPWAN applications
LoRa is available in Semtech transceivers such as SX1262, sx1280, SX1276, etc., but not in CC1310.
Some online discussions or product listings incorrectly combine the two terms. If you’re looking for a CC1310 module, you’re getting a (G)FSK radio, not LoRa. However, that doesn’t mean CC1310 can’t achieve impressive range. With proper front-end design and high output power, CC1310 modules can easily match or exceed LoRa’s range in many real-world scenarios, especially when paired with a PA like CC1190.
Coral RF offers both CC1310 and LoRa-based modules, so you can choose the best technology for your application.
Our CC1310-based modules are engineered for long-range reliability. By combining the CC1310 with the CC1190 front-end, we achieve output power up to +27 dBm (500 mW) or even +30 dBm (1W) with other PA configurations.
| Feature | Specification |
|---|---|
| Chipset | TI CC1310 + CC1190 |
| Frequency | 868 / 915 MHz |
| Output Power | +27 dBm (500 mW) |
| Interface | SPI + GPIO |
| Sensitivity | Enhanced by CC1190 LNA |
| Range | Up to 10+ km line-of-sight |
This module is ideal for industrial remote control, telemetry, and long-range sensor networks where high transmit power is essential.
For applications demanding even more power, the N539BS delivers +30 dBm (1W) output while maintaining excellent sensitivity.
The choice depends on your application requirements:
| Factor | CC1310 (Narrowband) | LoRa (SX1262, etc.) |
|---|---|---|
| Modulation | GFSK, MSK, OOK | Chirp Spread Spectrum |
| Data Rate | Up to 4 Mbps | Up to 62.5 kbps (typical) |
| Range | Very long with high PA | Very long, excellent penetration |
| Interference Immunity | Good | Excellent |
| Power Consumption | Ultra-low | Ultra-low (receive current higher than CC1310) |
| Ecosystem | TI SDK, SimpleLink | Semtech LoRa stack, LoRaWAN |
| Best For | High-throughput links, industrial control, real-time applications | Low-power sensor networks, LPWAN, public LoRaWAN networks |
If you need high data rates, real-time control, or operate in a crowded ISM band with traditional modulation, CC1310 is often the better choice. If you need maximum sensitivity, deep penetration, or are building a LoRaWAN device, LoRa may be preferable.
Coral RF supports both, so you can test and decide.
| Model | Chipset | Frequency | Output Power | Interface | Application |

| N533AS | CC1310 + PA | 433/868/915 MHz | +30 dBm (1W) | UART | Long-range point-to-point |
| N620PA | CC1310 + CC1190 | 868/915 MHz | +27 dBm | UART | Industrial telemetry, drones |
